Hey it’s me again. I know it’s been a while. Sorry about that. Anyway, I come bearing new images that I for one, have not come across in all my time being a Dark Knight fan. Ever.

What?!
Yesterday, at a Los Angeles press conference, Disney reps announced that they are set on purchasing Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion dollars in cash and stock. With this deal, Disney will gain rights to 5,000 of the Marvel characters. I didn’t even know Marvel had that many characters. The deal has already been approved by Disney and Marvel; the final result will depend on Marvel’s stockholders. The goal in this collaboration is pretty obvious: Disney’s trying desperatley to attract tourists, while Marvel has overall failed in obtaining a legitimate theme park. And let’s face it - there’s few things hotter than a good superhero flick in today’s industry.
Now…how will this affect the two franchises? I simply cannot picture men in tights running around Magic Kingdom. Thankfully, no such plans have been confirmed. However, meetings between the brains of Pixar and Marvel have already taken place. With luck, maybe Disney animation studios will help perfect the storylines that movies such as Fantastic Four, DareDevil, and Ghost Rider (to name a few) have utterly mutilated. On the other hand, the better movies will most likely be affected as well. Taking into consideration Disney’s past conflict with more alternative and independent filmmakers, hits like Ironman will probably thrive on a bigger budget, but might be more main-stream.
Speaking of Marvel…
Check out the new Fantastic 4: Rise to The Occassion clip and info on the Green Lantern movie.
There is reason for a premature celebration! Why? Well…
Christian Bale’s filmography (under Killing Pablo and Terminator 5) reveals that an Untitled Batman Project is in the works. But since this is quite early on, and in pre-produciton, this is technically subject to change. For that reason, I would say it’s only semi-official. Further (if any) details are available only to IMDB pro members. If you are one of those lucky few, congratulations! Maybe slip me a few tidbits of info?
On that same subject, it has been rumored that the director, Christopher Nolan, has the ambitious goal to shoot the “potential” third film entirely in IMAX. I wouldn’t doubt it, from how much he praised the technology after filming 30 minutes of The Dark Knight with it. It’s been theorized that he’s also using some of his time working on Inception to develop IMAX rigs customized for future usage. So a full-IMAX-feature is definitly plausible. Nolan did admit to have jotted down notes and a rough outline for a third film, but nothing he’d be willing to commit to on film yet.
So, in short: The third (and final?) film of the rebooted Batman franchise is coming…eventually.
